What are your favorite AI-based TV shows??
Imagine this: a humanoid approaches you on a dimly lit street with the stars flashing above. It's a cool and windy afternoon, but the humanoid has your full attention: he approaches you with a gleam in his eyes. How do you answer? Will he stand firm and salute him or will he throw all caution to the wind and run to the other side?
This plot may have sounded outlandish a decade ago, but it has taken on a whole new meaning in 2020. We've witnessed incredible progress in data science, and sci-fi scripts don't feel so strange anymore. A humanoid having a stupendously normal conversation with a human?? I've been there, done that (Hello GPT-3!).
But here is the question: TV shows continue to produce mind-blowing content when it comes to the use of data science. Just when you think you've seen it all, Westworld arrives with its Emmy-winning story and a dazzling array of AI-powered characters.
These TV shows aren't just gripping, show us a world that we could inhibit for decades to come. In this post, I have put together a list of 10 Classic AI-based TV shows that show us a whole new world.
If you feel like I missed a classic TV show, leave your favorite in the comment section below and I'll update the list.
1. Westworld
I had to put this series on top. Westworld is one of those television series that will make your head spin. Abroad, Westworld is a futuristic theme park with human androids: Hosts. It's a place where people come to live out their wildest fantasies. An inescapable dream for anyone! But it's the secrets behind the scenes that truly put a pen to the storytelling..
The story moves from the theme park founders wanting their smart hosts to achieve Sentience, to the discovery of extensive visitor data storage across multiple Westworld theme parks. Subsequently, the story moves to the real world, where we discover how an intelligent machine called Rehoboam is controlling the life of human beings using past data and defining a defined path for them. Hence, absolute control is guaranteed.
Easily the most advanced series when it comes to rendering AI on screen. This is a television series that you cannot miss.
It is, by the way, is a classic example of computer vision in action.
2. Silicon Valley
This is a must-have series for any data fanatic. Silicon Valley begins as a series in which the protagonist tries to create a product called Pied-Piper that compresses files through machine learning.. Inevitably, the series subsequently changes to Pied-Piper as the world's first decentralized internet where people's data cannot be compiled and used unnecessarily.
I loved the series for its simple explanation of the technology and the timing of the comic.
From a data science perspective, The series highlights problems with current Internet data collection standards, the need for a decentralized Internet and how various data science and machine learning concepts are used to create the Pied-Piper Internet. The series also gives you an insight into entrepreneurship., toxic competition and the sacrifices required to make such products.
3. altered carbon
Altered Carbon is a cyberpunk web series on Netflix. Explore the concept of infinite life where you can digitize your consciousness and live multiple lives by transferring it to another body. It is about a soldier from a rebel group called Takeshi Kovacs who comes back to life after being in storage for more than 250 years.
From an artificial intelligence hotel to artificial intelligence unions, the show reeks of the imagination of a potential life where artificial intelligence is the determinant of one's life. It triggered my imagination on what to expect from the future and how deep the fusion of AI and humanity will be.
4. Sr. Robot
This is one of the most complex data science based TV shows I have ever seen. The story is told through the eyes of the protagonist, Elliot. He is a cybersecurity engineer by day and becomes a vigilant hacker by night who attacks the same company he works for.
Mr. Robot is one of the popular series that talks about the growing power of digital information and its vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity remains a concern for many companies. At the same time, the show explains the growing dominance of data and technology.
5. Humans
Quite a title for a data science-based program!! Humans give you an idea of the social impact, psychological and cultural of robots, which we refer to as “synthesizers”. Set in a parallel present, synthesizers are now the must-have devices in every home. These advanced robots are not made simply for cleaning or any mundane job., but also for normal human tasks.
That's how it is, This is AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) in action!
Hoping to transform the way they live, A suburban family in a hurry buys a refurbished synthesizer only to find that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences. It serves as a good show with the human emotions involved with intelligent robots.
6. Person of interest
This could be the most watched data science TV series after Westworld. That's right!
Mysterious Billionaire Software Engineer Creates Machine Designs: “machine” for the goverment. It is capable of compiling all the information and subsequently predicting a terrorist attack accordingly. But the government ignores The Machine's ability to predict other crimes it deems irrelevant. Thus the engineer teams up with a presumed dead CIA agent to investigate the person of interest identified by the machine..
This TV series beautifully justifies the increased use of artificial intelligence systems. At the same time, something not to be missed is the advanced facial accreditation that the machine showcases. At the same time, The program sheds light on the ethics of privacy and the potential risks of Artificial Intelligence reaching sensitivity.
7. Black mirror
Black Mirror is a dystopian science fiction anthology series illustrating modern society and showing the unpredictable consequences of an over-reliance on technology. Since robots know human emotions and influence them to enter the other digital life, Black Mirror is trying to show all the possible technologies that can be developed with AI and subsequently portray its dark side.
At the same time, Black Mirror intelligently describes the power of the Internet of Things (IoT), where devices are connected to the daily routine of a human being. At the same time, shows how social media, data and the internet are affecting human life.
8. Strange city
Weird City shows the near future where rich and poor are divided by a border wall. The “Haves” they live “Above the Line”, in a clean and bustling metropolis full of advanced technology and many possibilities, and the “Have Nots” they live on the other side of the wall, “Below the Line”, where the money is tight.
The technology shown in “Above the Line” includes luxurious houses controlled by artistic AI, automated personal assistants, etc. The show truly made me wonder what is in the future for humanity and technology and if it will lead to the division of society..
9. Numbers
This classic TV series follows an FBI agent and his brother, a college math teacher and prodigy who helps his brother solve cases by giving him some mathematical knowledge that is always crucial to solving crimes.
Mathematics is a natural language to communicate directly with us. If you find the math interesting, You can not miss it. At the same time, the program aptly describes the impact of mathematics around us. Even the petals of a flower follow the math!!
10. Battlestar Gallactica
Classic sci-fi here. Battlestar Galactic is a human battleship in deep space. The ship flees a relentless attack to end humanity implemented by its own AI-Cylons. With the last 50.000 humans on board, they will go to the 13th Colony of the Earth.
This is a wonderful sci-fi series showing the raging battle between humans and robots, exposing the dark side of humans and the human side of robots. In the real world, this is a constant threat to humans. The show really got me thinking about the effects of Artificial Intelligence getting nasty to its creators.
