¿Do you know the seniority levels?

Contents

After several transnational corporations in the United States established bases and teams in various regions of Latin America, the concept of what we now call seniority was exploited, it will distinguish the level of professional experience or seniority levels of each person. But beware, this aspect has been (and will continue to be) measured by these grades. ¡No difference!

However, within these same levels, there are divisions, such as those with more than 15 years of experience, far superior to seniors. However, today we will discuss the meaning of Junior, Semi-Senior, and Senior.

This way, you will know your current qualifications so that you can update your CV and, from now on, be accurate. Now, to calculate people’s seniority levels, companies measure things like:

Time

If there is one factor that gives you mystery and quality, it is time because everything is essential to your experience.

Qualifications

Once we understand the importance of the time we spend doing something; the next step is to clarify what we know how to do, what tools we usually use, and how we do it.

Internships

Internships are done while you are still a student, even if they are similar to a job, and are not taken into account, as they are only university requirements.

Verticality

It is crucial to remember that periods you have worked in a field other than your major are also not taken into account.

However, it should be noted that internships and verticals, although not considered by companies for titles, are of great importance for interns in the C.V. The following are the types of seniority levels.

  • Trainee: A person who is studying or finishing their studies and has no work experience. This level requires supervision and is usually accompanied by training and management of other organization members.
  • Junior: This person has two years (or less) of experience in a field.
  • Semi-senior: Refers to someone who has been practicing their career for 2 to 6 years without interruption.
  • Senior: Another level, as we are talking about anyone with more than six years of experience working in the same field and can even train others.

What is acquired with seniority levels?

You should know that throughout your career, you will acquire technical knowledge and soft and practical skills. This means that, despite a lot of research, to move up the seniority ladder, you must have professional experience.

There are several ways to gain seniority: you can accumulate years of experience in a position or company, demonstrate an excellent ability to adapt to new challenges, or specialize in the field in which you work. Other essential skills are knowing how to organize, learning to communicate, showing creativity, and desiring to innovate.

Why is seniority important?

When there is no seniority but a strong desire to improve, it is advisable to start processes such as volunteering or internships that do not require experience, thus accumulating knowledge that will highlight new skills.

The difference between an experienced professional and an inexperienced professional impacts many aspects of the job: from the type of tasks they can perform to the salary level. For example, a young professional needs to be mentored by other professionals, which involves a more significant investment and possibly more time. A specialist with more seniority and autonomy can do more work in less time and therefore earns a higher salary.

In short, a senior is a profile that is highly valued and sought after by all companies today, as they are considered capable of solving problems and identifying development proposals for the organization.

And you, what level are you at…?
