How to disable Secure Boot

Secure Boot is a UEFI feature that prevents unauthorized software and operating systems from running throughout the computer's startup. In other words, secure boot is not a feature of windows 8 o Windows 10, only used by the operating system. And the main reason why it may be necessary to disable this feature is if the computer or laptop does not work to boot from the flash drive (even if the bootable flash drive succeeds).

As it was mentioned already, in some cases it is necessary to disable secure boot in uefi (the hardware configuration software that is currently used instead of the bios on motherboards): as an example, this feature can prevent booting from a flash drive or disk, when you install Windows 7, XP or Ubuntu and in other cases. One of the most common cases is the message “Secure Boot is not configured correctly” on the windows desktop 8 Y 8.1. This post will discuss how to disable this feature in different variants of UEFI interface.

Paso 1: go to uefi settings

To disable Secure Boot, you will first need to enter your computer's UEFI settings (enter BIOS). There are two main ways to do this..

Method 1: if you have windows 8 u 8.1 installed on your computer, you can go to Settings – Change computer settings – Update and restore – Restore and click “Restart” en las alternativas especiales de arranque en el panel right. Method 2. Press Delete (for desktop computers) or F2 (for laptops, sometimes – Fn + F2) when you turn on the computer. I have listed the most commonly used key alternatives, despite this, for some motherboards, these may differ, regularly these keys appear on the home screen when the computer is turned on.

Examples of how to disable secure boot on different laptops and motherboards

Here are some examples of how to disable it on various UEFI interfaces. The above mentioned alternatives are also used on most other UEFI motherboards.. If your option is not listed, look for the available ones and you will probably find a similar option in your bios to disable Secure Boot.

Asus motherboards and laptops

To disable Secure Boot on Asus hardware (its modern variants), in uefi settings, go to the Boot tab – Secure Boot and Operating System Type, Set “Other operating system” and then save the settings (F10 key).

On some variants of the Asus motherboard, go to the Security or Boot tab and set the Secure Boot option to Disabled for the same purpose.

Disabling Secure Boot on HP Pavilion and other HP laptops

To disable Secure Boot on HP Laptops, do the following: immediately after turning on the laptop, press the key “Esc”, you should see a menu with the option to enter the BIOS settings by pressing the F10 key.

In BIOS, go to the System Settings tab and select the Boot Options item. In this element, locate the item “Safe boot” and set it to “disabled”. Save the configuration made.

Lenovo and Toshiba Laptops

To disable the Secure Boot feature in UEFI on Lenovo and Toshiba laptops, enter uefi software (generally by pressing the F2 or Fn key + F2 when turning on).

After, go to the settings tab of “Security” and set the field “Safe boot” in “Disabled”. Thereafter, save the settings (Fn + F10 or just F10).

On Dell laptops.

On Dell laptops with InsydeH2O, the Secure Boot setting is located in “start” – “UEFI Boot” (see screenshot).

To disable Secure Boot, set the value to “Disabled” and save the settings by pressing the f10 key.

Disable Secure Boot in Acer

the secure boot item on acer laptops is located on the boot tab of the bios setup (UEFA), but by default it cannot be disabled (determine from Enabled to Disabled). On Acer desktops, the same feature is turned off in authentication. (It is also feasible to find it in Advanced – System configuration).

To make this option available (only on Acer laptops), on the security tab you must determine a password with determine supervisor password and only then will the safe boot deactivation be available. At the same time, you may need to enable csm boot mode or legacy mode instead of uefi.

Gigabyte

On some Gigabyte motherboards, disabling Secure Boot is enabled on the BIOS Features tab.

To start your computer from a bootable flash drive (non-UEFI), you must also enable csm boot and the previous boot version (see screenshot).

More options to disable

On most laptops and computers, you will see the same options to find the correct option as for the items already listed. In some cases, some details may differ, as an example, on some laptops, disabling Secure Boot may appear to be selecting the operating system in the bios: Windows 8 (O 10) and Windows 7. For this case, choose Windows 7 equivalent to deactivating the safe boot.

Advanced: how to tell if secure boot is enabled or disabled in windows

To check if Secure Boot is enabled in Windows 8 (8.1) and Windows 10, you can press the windows keys + R, scribe msinfo32 and hit Enter.

In the system information window, selecting the root partition from the list on the left, I searched “Secure Boot Status” to find out if the technology is enabled.
