Great Lakes Launches PGPBA Program Now in Bangalore, India

The analytics training landscape in India is evolving rapidly and I have been fortunate to participate in this evolution.. Outside of DataPeaker, I spend some time teaching as a visiting professor at the Great Lakes Institute of Management. It gives me a lot of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. While teaching at Great Lakes recently, I caught up with Sr. Hari Krishnan Nair, Director of Admissions for the Great Lakes Program PGPBA, who mentioned that Great Lakes is launching its Business Analytics program in Bangalore, India.

KJ: What is the goal behind the launch of the analytics program?

Day: The program is designed for working professionals who cannot quit their jobs but who, at the same time, want to develop their business analytics skills. We have been running this program for ~ 2 years and is one of the best programs offered in the country.

KJ: After Chennai and Gurgaon, Why are you launching this program in Bangalore?

Day: Since the inception of the Great Lakes business analysis program (Graduate Program in Business Analysis), we have seen a large number of Bangalore professionals participate in the program. At the moment, around the 34% of the professionals in our Chennai and Gurgaon programs are from Bangalore. Several companies we interact with have suggested that we take some initiative in delivering the PGPBA program in Bangalore to nurture analytical talent in our country's IT hub..

KJ: What would be the structure of this PGPBA program?

Day: The Great Lakes PGPBA program focuses on the business and application aspects of analytics, thus preparing candidates for managerial and techno-functional roles. Initial modules include dealing with topics such as business finance, marketing y CRM, supply chain management and operations, statistics, etc.

Later in the show, These topics are linked to analysis with topics such as: financial and risk analysis, marketing and retail analytics, social media and web analytics, supply chain and logistics analysis, etc. along with certain topics related to the domain analytics application.

This program also includes a final project (live project) candidates undergo for approximately 3 months. The program is created and delivered in conjunction with industry professionals from leading analytics institutions.

KJ: Who is the most suitable to join this program?

Day: The program has been endorsed by more than 500 professionals in a span of little more than 2 years. The professionals who join the program have a work experience of 8 a 9 years with a minimum work experience of 2 years and the highest to date is 28 years. The lot is a perfect picture of the diversity between CXOs and industry leaders, mid-career executives and young professionals.

The class consists of candidates in leadership positions such as president, vice president, heads of business units, associate directors, etc. At the same time of these leadership roles, the class is made up of project management candidates, Quality guarantee, team leaders, module leaders, engineering and business analyst roles

Most of the candidates are from the IT and technology field, followed by analysis and consulting, BFSI, medical care, telecommunications and more.

These professionals come from institutions like Cognizant, Accenture, IBM, Infosys, Deloitte, Amazon, Honeywell, Reliance, TATA AIA, Bank of America, Oracle, Cisco, IBM and more renowned institutions.

KJ: What are the tools covered in this program? What about the faculty?

Day: The tools covered in this program are SAS, R y Table. Teaching colleges are from the Great Lakes (Chennai y Gurgaon) and the industry faculties of leading analytics companies.

KJ: Would you offer placement services as part of this program?

We do not have a formal placement procedure. Despite this, to ensure an uninterrupted flow of career possibilities for students, we carry out certain professional support activities such as:

  • We share the job description of different companies that expect to hire from our program
  • Companies that have shared JD in the recent past are: Amazon, Genpact, Value Labs, Accenture, MuSigma, The Smart Cube, Fractal Analytics, L&T Analytics, TVS, American Express, Cipla, etc.
  • Apart of this, there are certain focused sessions that are organized with the help of senior industry professionals. These activities include: CV preparation, Career-focused guest lectures and personal orientation sessions for interested candidates, etc.
  • Peer networking, as well as the creation of networks with industry professionals who teach in the program has also been an important factor for the candidates to obtain job opportunities.
