We created our first set of parser classifications a few years ago. 18 months. We weren't expecting the great response those ratings received. The ranking is still one of the most visited pages on our web portal, A way to connect with the people who most likely need help!
Despite this, many things have changed in these 18 months. Many new courses have emerged, some courses that were there at the time are no longer available. We have also become wiser over time!! Therefore, it was time for us to update our rankings and do more holistic work on ranking various institutes running analytics programs in India.
Latest classifications 2015-16: Top Business Analysis Programs in India
What programs are covered in these classifications?
As part of these classifications, we only cover long-term courses (more of 9 months). We do not cover short-term certification courses here. These will be done in a separate post shortly. At the same time, we have excluded MOOCs from the rankings, since they would form a different consideration.
Then, here are the rankings:
1. Certified program in Business Analytics (CBA) – Indian School of Business:
India Business School Offering (ISB) continues to retain first place in this year's rankings in addition. The course covers various topics and is conducted in a format in which students are required to attend classrooms every alternate month. The course uses a technology-assisted platform during the months without a classroom. There is extensive industry interaction and a project of 3 a 6 months to the end of the course. With the ISB brand and the link with SAS, the course offers almost everything a person would have wanted.
I say almost because the only thing that goes against the course are considerably higher fees compared to other courses. Add in the expense of traveling to Hyderabad every alternate month and you might end up thinking twice., even if you are selected for the program.
2. PGPBA – Great Lakes Administration Institute, Chennai y Gurgaon
Great Lakes arrived with their analysis program a little late to the game, but when it arrived, Arrived in style! Comes closer to challenging ISB with its focus on structured thinking and business application. The format is again a mix of classroom and technology-assisted platform. Significant industry interaction, linking with Jigsaw Academy to deliver content online and the option to select from 2 destinations are some of the reasons why this course comes to this place.
My dissatisfaction with this course is mainly the lack of focus on one particular tool. Although the tool is only a means to an end, depth in at least one tool would make the offer very desirable. You can read a detailed review about the program here.
3. Certification program in analyticsAnalytics refers to the process of collecting, Measure and analyze data to gain valuable insights that facilitate decision-making. In various fields, like business, Health and sport, Analytics Can Identify Patterns and Trends, Optimize processes and improve results. The use of advanced tools and statistical techniques is essential to transform data into applicable and strategic knowledge.... business for executives (CPBAE) – IIM Lucknow
This course is jointly taught by professors from IIM Lucknow and Kelley School of Business. The course is divided into 4 modules and you need a residence in each module. At the same time, there is a link to SAS for E-Miner training at the end. The positive aspects of the course include 2 (O 3 if you take SAS training) Big Brands Backing You With A Wide Range Of Topics.
The main dissatisfaction with former members of the program has been the gap between what is taught in the classroom and what is needed at work. Based on discussions with one of the previous members (with 6 years of IT experience prior to taking this course) “Focus on practicalities and applications should be greater”.
4. Executive program in business analysis – IIM Kolkata
The course has an extension of one year and is divided into 10 modules. With only 2 campus visits, most of the course is taught through Hughes Education. Although the program has a lower work experience requirement compared to some of the counterparts, relatively lower interactions in the classroom make it a less desirable option. One more time, the focus is on covering a range of topics and the theory behind them, as opposed to practical applications at work.
5. Business intelligence and analytics – IIM Bangalore
IIM Bangalore was probably the pioneer in starting the one-year executive program in Analytics. This course is again a combination of classroom and online platform, with an optional module to cover SAS E-Miner at the end. The positives include a course that covers a wide range of algorithms and topics and is branded by an IIM.
Special mentions
I have not classified these courses in the list due to the different nature of the offer they have to offer:
Graduate program, Praxis Business School, Kolkata
Praxis Scores Brownie Points for Taking a Different Approach to Fixing the Talent Gap. A full-time program that is open to both beginners and experienced professionals and is probably the only one that takes responsibility for solving student placements because of its ties to the industry. Therefore, if you have relatively low work experience and can afford a break, this could be a good option.
CPEE- Big Data Analysis and Optimization-International School of Engineering (INSOFE)
INSOFE has not only created a niche by focusing on Big Data and Optimization. It also has links with universities in the United States.. Some students are sent to these universities as part of their link. Then, if you want to learn Big Data Analytics or want to settle in the USA. UU., This could be the preferred route.
Note: How have we classified these programs?
We have used a similar framework, that we use to categorize all programs on our training page. It's based on 4 parametersThe "parameters" are variables or criteria that are used to define, measure or evaluate a phenomenon or system. In various fields such as statistics, Computer Science and Scientific Research, Parameters are critical to establishing norms and standards that guide data analysis and interpretation. Their proper selection and handling are crucial to obtain accurate and relevant results in any study or project....:
- Course coverage: Coverage refers to the extent of material covered throughout the program. Do the programs cover aspects such as structured thinking? Advanced topics like Big Data? Data visualization tools and methods. The more extensive the coverage, the higher the score in this attribute.
- Content quality: The quality of the content refers to the depth of the central themes of the program. It takes into account factors such as industry interaction, the faculty pedigree, time spent interacting in the classroom, etc.
- Industry Accreditation: This refers to the accreditation that a program has earned in the analytics industry.; is synonymous with the brand equity of the course. Since we are looking for long-term courses, this accreditation would be reflected in the candidates' placements.
- Quality-price link
Once we have the score on all these parameters, we weigh them and calculate the overall score:
Program effectiveness score = ax Coverage score + bx Quality score + cx Brand score + dx Value score
In the current version of the ratings, we have used the following weights: a = 0,2; b = 0,4; c = 0,2; d = 0,2. Once we have the overall scores, we order the programs.
